Errol Morris' films are probably most often connected with the music of Philip Glass. The Thin Blue Line was made extra haunting by its Glass soundtrack, as was Morris' The Fog of War. Elsewhere, Morris' Fast, Cheap, and Out of Control is often overlooked in the Morris oeuvre, as is its non-Glass soundtrack by Caleb Sampson--which is too bad. FC&OOC just wouldn't have been served as well by the work of Mr. Glass. Sampson's work has Glassesque repetition, but adds a touch of Raymond Scott to the mixture. "Robots Everywhere," which backs a montage of, what else, robot prototypes for future planetary exploration is a giddy collection of strings, sound effects, and electronic sounds. Close your eyes. You will SEE the robots.
At the request of Nidrian, this week is Robot Week. I was surprised at how tough it was to find specifically robot-themed tunes in my collection. Well, I did my best. Let's start with a little group from Alabammy called Man... or Astroman?, performing the theme of their favorite Andy Griffith television show, Mystery Science Theater 3000.
